Black Delrin (POM-C) for the laser cutting.
Acetal technopolymer with high mechanical strength, low friction, and dimensional stability. Ideal for precision mechanical parts.
Description
The Delrin is the commercial name of the POM (polyoxymethylene), an acetal technopolymer with high mechanical performance. The sheets we use are in POM-C extruded copolymer, the most dimensionally stable variant and less subject to internal stresses than the POM-H homopolymer.
Delrin is a leading choice in precision engineering: it combines high tensile strength, low friction, excellent wear resistance, and dimensional stability even under continuous load. It is easily machined with mechanical tools but cannot be welded.
When to choose Delrin
Delrin is the right material when you need a precise and durable mechanical component: gears, pulleys, slideways, bearings, spacers, levers, cams, technical washers, robotics and automation parts. Its low friction makes it ideal for moving surfaces; its dimensional stability allows for tight tolerances.
Unlike the plexiglass, Delrin is not transparent and is not suitable for aesthetic or decorative applications: its surface is matte and prone to scratches. It is not even an outdoor material—it has poor UV resistance and tends to degrade with prolonged exposure to the sun.
Laser Cutting Instructions for Delrin
Delrin cuts very well with a CO2 laser and produces a clean, slightly amber-colored edge without significant burrs. The same rules apply as for laser cutting other materials:
- Objects must have a footprint of at least 10 × 10 mm.
- The elements on the template must be separated by at least 6 mm.
- Avoid details with width less than 1 mm.
- The “load-bearing” details must have width equal to or greater than the thickness of the slab (minimum 1 mm).
- Draw using only closed tracks.
- You can make it happen medium vector engravings (green color in the template). It is not possible to create engravings of different intensities or raster engravings.
Available colors and thicknesses
Delrin is available in basic black, the standard color of the mechanics. The natural color (ivory white) is available upon request.
Standard thicknesses: 1 mm · 2 mm · 3 mm · 4 mm · 5 mm · 6 mm · 8 mm · 10 mm
For greater thicknesses (up to 70 mm) or special formats, contact us.
Applications
Delrin is widely used in industrial, mechanical, and robotics applications. Some typical applications include:
- Precision gears, pulleys and sprockets
- Plain bearings and bushings
- Slide guides and linear tracks
- Components for robotics and automation
- Parts for food industry machinery (POM-C is food grade)
- Technical insulators in the electrical and electronic fields
- Mechanical parts for functional prototypes
Delrin can be drilled, tapped, milled, and machined with mechanical tools. It cannot be welded. Bonding requires specialized cyanoacrylate adhesives or epoxy-based structural adhesives, along with surface preparation.
